Why I wrote this book ~
“What? Yet another book on the subject of Near Death Experience? Aren’t there enough already? I mean, what more could there possibly be to say about it?” That was my first response many years ago after sharing my story with a gathering of friends when they declared, “Oh, you have to write a book!”
Prior to that, I recall having seen bookstore shelves filled with various titles on the subject. I had never read one before at that early point in time, because I assumed that surely this topic must have been covered quite thoroughly by now. What more could there be to add? Yet, more and more NDE titles kept appearing.
So it seemed there was a genuine interest to know more about this uncommon experience. After asking the aforementioned questions, I then asked why they insisted that I publish my story. Their answer was, “There is something in your story that we haven’t heard before and we think it’s really important for people to hear it.” I often got this same response as I continued to share my experience in other group settings, which ultimately led me to finally say, “Well, ok then. It looks like I’m going to write a book!”
However, I wasn’t initially sure exactly where to begin. This was a highly intimate and personal experience that I felt needed to be presented in a simple and uncomplicated way that would be accessible to people from all walks of life. But I knew one thing for certain that would simplify the process and fulfill that goal. When I just verbally shared the story, people always seemed to have some positive and often even cathartic responses.
Aside from bringing some value of comfort and peace regarding the whole subject of death, it always seemed to bring about a natural and spontaneous release of some old deep-seated fears that had been with them for a very long time. So I chose to write the story in the same way I had always shared it in those casual settings with friends. That seemed to be the most natural way of writing so that anyone who reads this book may possibly experience it as profoundly as those who have heard my story directly from me, in my own voice…
During my writing process, I was always aware that there are many other NDE stories and that there is not one “right” way to have such an experience. There are often some similar events that many NDEs seem to have in common: Viewing the body from just above, being greeted by previously deceased loved ones, seeing a brilliant light, and more. But each and every journey will be different from one another. This is my story that is unique to me. Every NDE is also unique and perfect as it unfolds for each individual. Above all, I believe that Near Death Experiences teach us more about life than death.

Now, after many years of starting and stopping, often setting aside my writing while I waited for words to come that could most clearly and precisely describe something that is almost beyond description, I can finally share my full story. It includes the events leading up to the NDE, the journey itself, the return to the body, the resulting dramatic changes it brought into my life, and some special healing gifts that spontaneously emerged over time. While this is not a “How To” book, it is my intention to share my story with the hope that it will simply enliven the underlying memory of our true, divine and eternal nature that uniquely resides within all of us.
The grace of life and death ~
I have sincerely made the effort to fulfill the wishes of those many friends and others who have continually encouraged me to write this book. Of course, I have made sure to include that missing “something” they felt needed to be told. And I have always felt it is the most important “something” that all human beings should know about the essential nature of our existence. And that it is possible to experience the full range of being and the infinite connection we all have to one another and to the eternal Source of our own existence and that of all creation…
And about that title…
While the title of this book may at first seem a bit irreverent to some, that is not the intention at all. Aside from witnessing my own death process, or what is referred to as “Near Death Experience,” I certainly have known the great sense of loss when a loved one passed from this worldly existence. After all, I am human, capable of experiencing the wide range of possible emotions we are all touched by throughout our lives.
The whole point is that death is not the end of us—not the end of consciousness, of the soul. Even though the body will perish, we live on because of that first breath of God Source that gave rise to consciousness and all the creation. It can never “not” exist in some way or another. That is the grace bestowed upon us. I hope that as you read my story, you may be comforted and inspired by a vision of possibility and hopefully consider always to be more loving, caring, and compassionate as we walk together in this vast and marvelous field of creation. Forever inseparable…
