Death of a Zealot

May 2nd, 2011

Thanks to my friend, Stokes, for posting this on Facebook today:

“I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate. Only love can do that.” – Jessica Dovey (attribution to Martin Luther King Jr. is a Facebook hoax)

It is certainly a complex world we live in for the evolutionary development of the human soul. True compassion knows no bounds, even for those who express the least amount or no compassion in this world through such violent acts as OBL and others throughout history and yet, those who feel relief or even joy in his death, should not feel any guilt if that is their true feeling at this time. It is not possible to ever truly know what lies in another’s heart and soul. As human beings, we are simply presented with opportunity for growth and evolution…we take it as it comes, as we are able. And if we stumble on the way to higher ground, then that opportunity will present itself time and again in new ways–even, eventually, for the perpetrators of violence.
