The Precious Gift of Life

Robin Williams Profie PicRobin’s Journey:

I, like many others, was saddened to hear of the passing of Robin Williams. He brought a great light into this world and uplifted many hearts and minds through his amazing talent and his gentle kindness. He most definitely made the world a better place. Yet, even with all his gifts and like many others, he had his own challenges that he struggled with throughout most of his life.

In the end, he lost hope and conviction to carry on. The weight of depression became too much and in a moment he made a choice that could not be undone and that would have a tremendous impact not just on his own life, but on the lives of so many others, as well. While we mourn and sincerely wish he had not made that choice, we can’t judge him for his decision.

What Dreams May Come?

For many who face such overwhelming depression, sadness or sorrow, suicide at times may seem like the only way out when all hope vanishes and it just becomes too much to bear. Sometimes it may seem like the only solution and even a reasonable one at that! After all, many of us by now have heard or read many stories of some amazing, inspiring experiences of those who have somehow momentarily “crossed over” or “saw the light” or some other-worldly inspiring glimpses of an underlying, eternal nature of life beyond death. We all want to believe that there is more after death and that all suffering will finally end, as we continue to exist in a more glorious and beautiful realm.

Is There Another Side?

Gold-LightMany years ago, I went through my own death process in a hospital after emergency surgery and I experienced an amazing journey that changed my life forever. I experienced that eternal nature of the soul and life beyond our worldly existence. I viewed our connection to all levels and every particle of the almost infinite field of creation, without separation. I witnessed the birth of my own individual consciousness from the Source of all life and experienced that essence permeating my being and the entire creation as it unfolded before me. When I finally returned to my body, I knew that nothing in my life would ever be the same again. I also knew that there is really no other side–that life “is” and that we exist throughout every particle of creation, always…

The Precious Gift of Life

And the main reason throughout the years that I have continued to share with others the story of my own journey, especially at a time of loss like this, is that I believe the near death experiences are meant for us to draw upon for living “here and now” in this precious life we have been given. There is no need to even to think that it will somehow be better if we could just escape the challenges and hardships we may suffer in this life. It is so important to realize that this is where we get it done! This is where we evolve and grow so that we can experience the fullness and purpose of being as we truly exist. However, after intense or long-term depression, we sometimes just want to end the suffering–hit the pause button on life itself. But when we hit the play button again, the movie continues. We have our unique paths to travel and this is the only place we can truly find our way. There are others who will walk beside us and help us if we can reach out. I truly believe that there will be nothing given to us in our lives that we cannot ultimately overcome and survive…and thrive.

Suicide and the Bigger Picture

I know of individuals who attempted suicide and nearly puled it off. When they were somehow revived or saved, they all said that the instant they left the body, they realized the futility of what they had just done and realized how important their lives really were. They were a few fortunate enough to miraculously return to continue on with a renewed faith and purpose for living. However, it is important that we not judge those who made that choice to interrupt the life they were given in this world and could not come back. As they say, “it’s complicated” but their journey will continue… God bless them.
