NDE or Final Transition: Is it Really About Death or is it About Life?

March 24th, 2017

It’s really not about death– It’s about life!

I have always believed that Near Death Experiences are not just for the benefit of the experiencer, but to be shared with others for their benefit, as well.

Each NDE is unique and perfect for each individual. And while there are often certain similar experiences (perhaps a tunnel, a brilliant light, greetings by past loved ones, angels, etc) there is no one “right” Near Death Experience or even a final transition, for that matter. At the very least, sharing these experiences may potentially help ease the fear of death. But more importantly, it may simply remind us of the eternal nature of life–that we are truly much more than just human beings contained within the boundaries of a physical body. Life is eternal…

I have had the opportunity to share my own death experience many times over the years and have always found it to bring comfort and hope. I have also been blessed with the opportunity to be present throughout this transition process with others and their loved ones. I say “blessed” because it is truly a blessing to witness and be a part of such amazing moments. I have witnessed birth and I have witnessed death and in all sincerity, I can say that there is a particular moment in that transition where there is only “life.” Whether it be birth or so called “death,” that special moment is one and the same and only leads to a continuum of life. Like the two sides of a coin–each side seemingly a different and unique expression but, in reality, from one source essence which gives rise to, permeates, supports, and sustains both sides.

Of course, it is never easy to lose a loved one. It is difficult to watch as their body is engaged in a losing battle to continue to exist. But through witnessing my own death process and that of others, I can assure you that there comes a time when it simply becomes a physical process and the essence or soul of the person is not suffering while the body appears to struggle in its fight for survival. The body is programmed to survive and will do all it can to function until it can no longer. But other things are happening behind the scenes. The individual consciousness often transcends the physical, beyond the reach of pain and suffering, as it is silently preparing for its transition from its worldly form.

There are many special gifts that are bestowed in the midst of it all for those present or near. Sometimes we are able to experience it as it unfolds and sometimes maybe later as we move through our grief process in our own way and in our own time–no formula. No right or wrong of how we should experience that loss and ultimate healing, just like there is no right or wrong way for anyone to a go through the NDE or that ultimate transition.

For those of us who have had a Near Death Experience: (Still feels odd to think of it as “near.” As a friend once said, “Near? There ain’t no ‘near’ about it!”) There is an undeniable sense of an eternal nature of life–that we don’t cease to exist, even though we may no longer exist in the form that we, and everyone else, came to know and identify ourselves as being in this physical form. For others, sometimes it is just a matter of faith that we do continue. We just each do the best we can with it all and appreciate the opportunity to have shared in life. But there is also an inherent possibility of experiencing something very powerful and positive: When we lose a loved one, there is often an amazing outpouring of love and support that can reassure us that in the end, it’s all worth having the opportunity to have lived, loved and been loved in this world…
