Since the beginning of time, human beings have had both a fear and a fascination about death: ""Is it peaceful? Will I suffer? What's it like on the other side? Is there a tunnel? Will I see the light? Will I see my departed loved ones? Will I see God? Is there really a Heaven or Hell?"" And finally, ""What will actually become of me? Will I continue to exist in some way or will I simply cease to be?"

Many years ago, as Thomas lay in a hospital bed following emergency surgery and appearing to be unconscious, he heard the doctor's words, "We're sorry. We've done all we can. We're not sure he's going to make it." Within moments, after declaring to himself that he was not going to die, he soon began clearly witnessing the unstoppable process of his own death.

Upon his return, Thomas had no memories of ever having been here in this world but he recalled every detail of his journey from death, to life, to healing.
